"Food In Motion" Challenge September 2024
I decided to host and animate a piece for a “Food in Motion” animation/sound design collab this summer, after I participated in a few other vintage print collabs! I’ve always been inspired by retro food ads, and after I launched my cooking channel on YouTube (I Make Ugly Pancakes), I knew it was the right time to see who else wanted to join me! 🥞

The Motion Designers had the option to select a retro print of their choice to either break apart, recreate, and/or be inspired by, and then animate up to 10seconds. Sound Designers had the option to choose which Motion Designer/Print pairing they wanted to sound design for, on a "first come, first serve" basis!
I was VERY SURPRISED by the amount of animators and sound designers who signed up, and I’m so proud to post the final result! Thanks to everyone involved! This was so much fun, but also a big undertaking, so it might be awhile before I host another! 😜 ✌
"My Dog"  Design AND Animation Challenge July 2024
This was a fun design AND motion collab, hosted by Ian Bolden! The prompt was "What does your dog do during the summer?" -and even though MY dog would rather stay on dry land and nap the day away, I felt way too inspired. I was listening to Weezer's "Island in the Sun" during this process! 😎🌴🐶
I did a little roto with some video I shot of Lady as well. I was hoping to experiment in ProCreate Dreams, but After Effects was faster. It's currently getting a sound pass, and then I'll post the final with the others when it's finished!

Keep still, wiggle butt -you'll get your treat when you hit your mark!

Sooooo many keyframes.

"Design Before Motion" MidCentury Modern Print Animation June 2024
Another fantastic collab, hosted by Marc Lawrence! Our group was tasked with taking an existing Mid Century Modern static print, and making it move, however we were inspired to do so! This time I didn't get the luxury of selecting my own print (random spin of the wheel), and I landed on Joseph Law's "The Lost Sea" Book Jacket, from 1951.

I did record my workflow, since I had a very busy month and only had a 3 hour window to break down the piece, set it up, and animate it before sending it over to my assigned sound designer,
Nelson Kuzivakwashe Madzima, (a fun new development for Marc's collabs, since the first time I participated!). Stay tuned for that timelapse, coming soon.

Vintage Travel Poster Animation March 2024
Huge shoutout to Kelly Schanes for hosting March's animation retro collab, using vintage travel posters! I knew as soon as I saw this poster that I wanted to make it move! I really challenged myself this time to consider an intro leading into the poster, using the various background elements. And this piece was SCREAMING for some sound design!

Original Print: David Klein -  "Las Vegas" - 1955

First thing I needed to do was recreate the character with shape layers and rig up her limbs for motion in After Effects!

After I finished the body shapes and animated her, I duplicated and added the clothing/color changes, so it would be a seamless transition when she moved into the night time masked area.

You can't celebrate Las Vegas without a glitz and glitter!

"Design Before Motion" MidCentury Modern Print Animation February 2024
Such a great collab, hosted by Marc Lawrence! 13 of us were tasked with taking an existing Mid Century Modern static print, and making it move, however we were inspired to do so! When I saw Alvin Lustig's "Arts & Architecture Magazine " piece from 1945 in the mix, I called dibs immediately!

I've been so inspired by collage animation, and learning new ways to animate textures in After Effects, so I knew I wanted to apply that. I also could see these stacked chairs animating like a deck of cards, so that was a challenge figuring out how to break each one apart so they could interlock visually and move independently with a bit of an offset.
